Library

The library supports reading for pleasure with a variety of fiction books and supports the school’s curriculum with a collection of non-fiction books and magazines.

The library is open throughout the school day and offers a learning space where students can read, study and use a number of computer stations.

Each Year 7 and Year 8 class has a fortnightly library session with their English teacher and the librarian. Here is a useful resource where you find reading lists for KS3 and KS4. The English department has also created a KS5 Reading List, aimed at developing students’ reading through diverse and often challenging authors.

To support the school’s enrichment activities, the library holds book clubs for Year 9 and Year 10 groups. It also organises shadowing of the Carnegie Book Award shortlist every year with a Year 8 group. In conjunction with the English department, the library runs a variety of Book Week events.

Many students take the chance to be involved in the running of the library as student librarians. They work towards their student librarian award and have the opportunity to earn additional badges and become senior librarians.

The library catalogue is available online for students via a dedicated website. Students can borrow eBooks and eAudiobooks online using single sign on via their school Google account by following these instructions.
