Jack Petchey Foundation

Jack Petchey is a wealthy philanthropist who, having received little benefit or encouragement in his formal education in East London went on to become a self-made millionaire. His foundation is a grant-making trust based in Ilford, Essex, and has developed into one of the largest and most influential charitable foundations in London, channelling significant sums into schools, youth clubs and other organisations. It currently operates in over 1600 secondary schools and youth clubs. Over £133 million has been awarded in grants since 1999.

The Achievement Award Scheme enables schools to recognise the fact that many young people make really positive contributions to the school and/or their local community.

Eltham Hill is a Gold Member of the Achievement Awards Scheme, meaning we award 9 young people from years 7-11 each year and 3 from our sixth form.

  • Nominations for the winner(s) will come from the students.
  • Awards must be spent on school projects/resources and are worth £250 each.
  • A committee made up of the Head Girl’s Team and Senior Prefects are involved in choosing the Award winner(s) from student nominations.

The winners choose which of the projects/resources they would like to spend the money on. A student may only receive one award during their time at the school. The winner receives a framed certificate, a Jack Petchey Young Achiever pin badge and £250 to spend on school project/resources of their choice. All Achievement Award winners are expected to attend the annual Royal Borough of Greenwich Presentation Ceremony to receive their medallions. The ceremony takes place at the O2 during the summer term.

The foundation also supports many programmes, from sport to science, art to internships, vlogging to volunteering.

Eltham Hill also regularly takes part in Jack Petchey’s

“Speak Out” Challenge! The world’s largest public speaking competition for young people. We also recognise staff members through the foundation’s Leader Award scheme.

If you would like to know more about the scheme please contact Ms Ward, who is our Jack Petchey Co-Ordinator at our school or click on the logo above to go straight to the Jack Petchey website.
