1996- 2007

In 1996 Eltham Hill began another chapter in its history in successfully applying for specialist Technology College status.  Eltham Hill School was renamed Eltham Hill Technology College for Girls.  The additional government funding, together with business sponsorship, enabled the building of a new maths block with 6 classrooms and offices.  The building was named the Timberlake Block in honour of the earlier headmistress.

Another change of head came in 2000, when Mrs Marjorie Findlay-Stone was appointed, and to reflect the status of the College the position became known as “Principal”.  During the next five years the provision of computers and technology generally within the College expanded massively.  Although the sixth form was taken away from Eltham Hill under central and local government reorganisations, the College went from strength to strength as far as exam results were concerned, at both Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4.  The extra-curricular side of the College also blossomed, with many clubs and activities established, together with a Student Forum and a new prefect system, with Head Student and Deputy Head Students.

Raising funds for charities continued to be an integral part of College life, carrying on the tradition of helping those less fortunate, as from the school’s earliest days.  In 2002 an annual Fun Run was established, a huge fund raising exercise which benefited a different charity each year and raised as much as £10,000 in one year alone.

In 2003 the College was first linked to another building scheme which would have a huge impact on the site – the government initiative “Building Schools for the Future”.  In 2006, our centenary year, plans are taking shape for a partial rebuild and complete renovation of the buildings, with works to begin in the autumn of 2007.  The building works will no doubt provide new challenges to staff and students alike, but history shows that Eltham Hill has weathered such storms in the past and emerged stronger and more successful than before.

Mrs. Findlay-Stone retired from the College in July 2007, handing over to Ms Madeleine Griffin.

Marjorie Findlay-Stone made as her parting gift the fact that the college achieved ‘Healthy Schools’ status in July 2007. She also gave the school a magnificent time-piece.
