Bursary
Eltham Hill School receives funding to provide financial support to Sixth Form students who may be experiencing financial difficulties which could affect their ability to continue in education. Students and families are encouraged to read the information about the 16-19 Bursary Fund and consider whether they may be eligible for support. Further information, including eligibility criteria and how to apply, can be found in the relevant policy and application documents below. If you are unsure whether you qualify, or have any questions about the bursary, please speak to a member of the Sixth Form or Finance Team. Support is available, and we encourage eligible students to apply.
Types of Bursary Support
The 16 to 19 Bursary Fund provides two main types of support:
Vulnerable Bursary
A bursary of up to £1,200 per year may be available to students who are:
- In care
- Care leavers
- Receiving Income Support or Universal Credit because they are financially supporting themselves
- Receiving Employment and Support Allowance (ESA) or Universal Credit alongside Disability Living Allowance (DLA) or Personal Independence Payment (PIP) in their own right
Discretionary Bursary
Discretionary bursaries are available to support students who are experiencing financial difficulty and need help with the costs associated with remaining in education.
The amount awarded will depend on the individual student's circumstances and the financial barriers they face.
To be eligible under the discretionary category, students must meet one or more of the following criteria:
- Be currently in receipt of free school meals.
- Be able to evidence a household income of less than £30,000 per annum. This includes earned income, tax credits and benefits.
Support may contribute towards costs such as travel, books, equipment, educational visits or other essential expenses connected with Sixth Form study.
