Science and Technology

Science has changed our lives and it is vital that students leave our school with essential aspects of the knowledge, methods, processes and uses of science. Science also combines a variety of core skills and takes up a significant proportion of the curriculum at KS3 and KS4 at Eltham Hill School.

Through the study of Biology, Chemistry and Physics, students are encouraged to:

  • recognise the power of rational explanation and develop a sense of excitement and curiosity about natural phenomena;
  • understand how science can be used to explain what is occurring, predict how things will behave, and analyse causes.

‘Working scientifically’ forms a large part of the curriculum at all Key Stages, focusing on using a variety of approaches to answer relevant scientific questions. These types of scientific enquiry include: observing over time, pattern seeking, identifying, classifying and grouping, comparative and fair testing (controlled investigations); and researching using secondary sources. Students seek answers to questions through collecting, analysing and presenting data, and develop analysing and evaluating skills.
