Sports Leadership: BTEC

Syllabus: Edexcel

The Physical Education Curriculum at Eltham Hill offers opportunities for every student to reach their full potential physically, socially, emotionally and cognitively. It offers a comprehensive range of learning experiences to meet the needs of individual students and encourage active life long involvement by all as performers, observers and officials.

Structured and developmental schemes of work provide for progression and aim to encourage student’s self-esteem by encouraging them to discover their own physical competence.

Student’s develop a wide range of skills and the ability to use tactics, strategies and compositional ideas to perform successfully. When they are performing, they reflect on their own and other’s performances and find ways to improve them.

The development of consideration towards others, a sense of fair play and good sporting behaviour are considered essential elements of the learning process. We encourage students to be Sports Captains to develop their leadership skills and take on wider roles within the local community.

At Eltham Hill School we pride ourselves on the extensive sporting opportunities which are made available to our students. Our extra-curricular sports programme is designed to give students the very best chance to further develop their sporting abilities as well as providing an avenue for competitive Local, and Regional sporting fixtures.

Students have the opportunity to be part of many teams including Football, Netball, Handball, Basketball, Rounders, Athletics, Rugby and Cross Country.

The BTEC Sport course consists of a wide variety of units focusing on practical subjects like Sports Coaching, Refereeing, Leadership, Fitness Training, Work Experience and Team and Individual Sports to more theoretical elements including Anatomy and Physiology, Sports Development, Organising Sports Events and Assessing Risks in Sport.
