On Tuesday 13th October, our headteacher Erika Podmore and our Leader of Oracy Nadia Ward attended the ESU Rutland Awards in London. The event took place in the home of the English Speaking Union, Dartmouth House, and was part of the Sir Evelyn Wrench Lecture, the ESU's most prestigious event.

This year's lecture was presented by the American Ambassador to the UK, Warren A. Stephens, who spoke about the "special relationship" between our two countries, on this, their semiquincentennial year as a nation.

During the awards ceremony, Eltham Hill School was named the winner of the ESU-Rutland Oracy Culture Award, which highlights a school's commitment to providing outstanding oracy provision for all students, and embedding the ideals of spirited debate, respect for difference of opinion, and the transformative power of the spoken word - all attributes that the ESU champion across the UK.

We are delighted to be the winners of this year's award and for the acknowledgement of the hard work of our staff to transform lives through our groundbreaking oracy work.
