iPads for Learning
Education in the 21st century means students can learn almost anything anywhere and at any time. Alongside the technology equipment we have in school, we currently operate an ‘iPads for Learning’ scheme to increase learners’ access to technology and to provide a wide range of functions to enhance teaching and learning, both in and out of the classroom.
“The most powerful tools for learning are the ones students love to use.”
Post 16 Students
Students in Years 12 and 13 have access to a number of online courses created by their teachers, using a range of resources such as: Google Classroom and iTunesU. They can also use iPads for research and presentation skills.
Post 16 students are able to access our ‘iPads for learning’ scheme where families are able to purchase a new iPad by spreading the cost over two years. The monthly payment scheme includes the cost of accidental damage, loss and theft insurance which is managed by BELF / Intelligent Rewards. At the start of each academic year, Post 16 students are invited to take part in the voluntary scheme and detailed information is provided.
Alternatively, Post 16 students can bring their own devices to access the school’s Wi-Fi network to support their independent learning and progress. However, the school cannot take responsibility for students’ personal property and as such they cannot be supported by our technical team.
Leasing Schemes for Post 16
The Leasing Scheme is with a charity, the Birmingham eLearning Foundation (BeLF). The cost is approximately £15 per month over two years and includes a protective case, insurance and apps/software
The iPad is owned by the family, not the school, once it has been paid in full.
If a student leaves the school before the end of their payment plan, the final balance must be paid in full or the iPad will be locked remotely and necessary action will be taken to reclaim the outstanding costs.
IT Support for Lost or Stolen iPads
The school’s IT team need to be informed as soon as possible if an iPad is lost or stolen so that it can be put into ‘lock down’ and ‘Find my iPad’ modes.
How to make an insurance claim if the iPad is damaged:
Eltham Hill School and BELF are unable to assist you if you damage your iPad. However, you are provided with a comprehensive insurance service as part of your continued payments into the scheme. All insurance claims must be registered by completing the online form and providing as much detail as possible. Please note that the USB charging cable and plug adapter are not covered by insurance for damage or loss. You will be responsible for replacing these items yourselves from a suitable supplier, such as an electrical store or even major supermarket chains now stock these.
