Last week, our Duke of Edinburgh’s Award participants set off for their expedition in Downe and its beautiful surrounding areas. It was a trip that truly put their skills to the test, and we could not be prouder of how they rose to the challenge.

Despite the British weather doing its worst, spirits were absolutely not dampened by the rain. The girls showed outstanding teamwork and resilience, navigating the damp trails with bright smiles, singing, and an incredible sense of camaraderie. When the going got tough and the backpacks felt heavy, they lifted each other up and pushed through as a cohesive team.

Campcraft is a massive part of the DofE experience, and the girls fully embraced the challenge of outdoor cooking. The campsite came alive with the smell of sizzling hot dogs and the comforting warmth of hot chocolates, which were the perfect antidote to the rainy weather.

Of course, no expedition is complete without a few kitchen mishaps - including a memorable batch of slightly burnt pasta! But in true DofE spirit, it was met with laughs, good humour, and a valuable lesson in stove control.

Alongside navigating, pitching tents and cooking, the girls have also been busy working on a creative twist for their expedition aim: a Colour Photo Treasure Hunt. They have been capturing some fantastic, vibrant snapshots along their route.

We will be sharing more details and a gallery of their colourful discoveries very soon, so keep an eye out for our next update. A massive congratulations to all the Year 10 participants for a successful, memorable and muddy expedition. You truly embodied the spirit of the DofE!
